Courtroom Applications

Despite the availability of electronic courtroom technology, most trial lawyers still present their exhibits the old-fashioned way - by holding up pictures; passing documents and using blow-ups on easels that the jury can barely read. In document-intensive cases old fashioned methods are not only ineffective but also an inefficient use of courtroom time.

Courtroom technology has a bright future in American trials. In fact, effective and proper use of electronic support can dramatically shorten a trial. Storing critical documents, photographs, drawings, graphs, sketches, computer printouts, video and audio files on a computer not only makes it easier to manage and organize exhibits but it also serves as a central repository for transmitting evidence to every location in the courtroom.

Structural Challenges

Many courtrooms are located in historical buildings or have infrastructure limitations which make technology installations and especially configurations that require cabling a formidable challenge. The Avocent Professional A/V solutions surmount that challenge with wireless alternatives for extending data from a central location to remote destinations making it possible for older courtrooms to have the same access to technology as the newer and more modern facilities.

Avocent Emerge EWMS1000

The Avocent Professional A/V solutions make it possible for the witness, the questioning lawyer, the jury, and the judge to all see the exhibit at the same time. The Emerge EWMS1000 wireless media streamer features wireless video extension and broadcasting with robust, reliable performance. The Avocent wireless technology is built on Advanced Encryption Standards (AES), plus a proprietary link layer protocol that ensures additional levels of security between connections. Multiple input/output formats are supported including component, S-video, composite video, RGB computer video and stereo audio.

Plug and Play Installation

The Emerge EWMS1000 transmitter is connected directly to the computer or wherever the evidence repository is stored. At the remote end, the Emerge EWMS1000 receivers connect directly to the output devices distributed throughout the courtroom. Output devices may include LCDs, plasmas, projectors and/or monitors. Up to 8 output devices can be connected to a single transmitter.

Increased Productivity, Decreased Costs

A central repository combined with wireless transmission technology makes it possible for evidence to be seen immediately at all locations within the courtroom helping to expedite the trial proceedings and boost courtroom productivity. In addition, courtrooms save on the cost of cabling and its ongoing upkeep and support. Wireless video extension is poised to reduce infrastructure costs and reduce A/V set up times which will ultimately help courtrooms increase their case loads.

Portability is a Viable Option

The design of the Emerge EWMS1000 wireless media streamer makes it very flexible and easy to quickly install. For buildings where multiple courtrooms are co-located, buying several Emerge EWMS1000 systems and sharing them among multiple courtrooms is a viable alternative. If one courtroom is not using electronic evidence presentation, that wireless system can be used in another courtroom. The ability to spread the technology across multiple courtrooms brings the cost per courtroom down considerably.
